Traditional Himachali Customs (Legal)

Some Himachali communities have traditions that are often confused with dowry:

• Depa/Har: Traditional gift-giving during engagement (voluntary, symbolic)
• Wedding attire: The groom's family gifting the bride's wedding dress
• Naatha: Nose ring ceremony gifts (symbolic, small value)

These become illegal only when demanded as a condition or when the value is excessive.
